In elections, Second Amendment advocates often overlook political races that seem unrelated to the right to keep and bear arms. That is a mistake for two reasons: First, any race that advances the political career of a pro-freedom candidate can be useful if it increases the chance of that candidate eventually being elected to higher office. Second, some tasks of offices seemingly unrelated to the right of self-defense might actually have an impact not obvious at first glance.

Self-defense advocates should pay attention to the race for Cabarrus County Commissioner for both of those reasons.

In the Republican primary, the candidate who stands out is Larry Pittman (voting record: 100%, GRNC ****). During his terms in the NC house Pittman not only earned a 100% pro-freedom voting record, but repeatedly sponsored legislation to expand the rights guaranteed North Carolinians under the Second Amendment.
