DON’T LET LEFTIST GUN BANNING TV WATCHERS POLL CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY INTO OBLIVION!!

We at GRNC worked hard in our last election to elect supermajorities in both the NC Senate and the NC House to render Governor Cooper’s VETO PEN INKLESS.  Our efforts resulted in a true Senate conservative supermajority and a “working conservative supermajority” in the House for the 2023-2024 Session. A pleasant surprise occurred during the current session when Representative Trisha Cotham (R-112) saw the light and switched her party affiliation to Republican, giving BOTH chambers a true, absolute super-majority in each.

Andy Stevens, GRNC’s Director of Legislative Affairs made this point in an interview he had today with Reporter Michael Hyland of CBS17 in Raleigh.  You can see his reporting here:

Now for the GOOD and BAD news:

The good news is that Hyland’s piece is generally fair and accurate. The bad news is that Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger (R-26) is quoted from an earlier statement in which he said he didn’t believe we “need” another gun bill after passing Senate Bill 41 to repeal our Jim Crow-era pistol permit system and fix the church carry loophole.

While we commend Sen. Berger for taking the lead in passing SB 41, however, GRNC does not believe legislators should decide which rights we do or do not “need.”

Further, the fact is HB189 – NC’s Freedom to Carry Act – is a bill that House Speaker Tim Moore (R-111) must shepherd through the legislative process just as Senate Leader Berger (R-26) moved SB 41 to enactment.

HB 189 successfully made it through both its initial Judiciary Committee hearing and a subsequent House Rules Committee and made it to the House schedule for its full chamber vote before it was summarily removed from the schedule and returned to the House Rules Committee for further action.

We ALL know the reasons why its time to eliminate this unnecessary obstacle to lawfully conceal carry a handgun in North Carolina:

• The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed!
  
  
• 27 states including, most recently, Florida and Nebraska, have instituted some form of permitless concealed carry for their residents.
  
  
• It gives North Carolinians the immediate opportunity to protect themselves and their loved ones while a concealed handgun permit application is processing.
  
  
• It gives North Carolinians in Mecklenburg County immediate relief from a sheriff who willfully delays and obstructs the issue of Concealed handgun permits while our GRNC/GOA lawsuit contesting his unlawful obstructionism works it way through the federal courts.  (Some applicants have been waiting OVER A YEAR for their permits to be issued by Mecklenburg Sheriff Garry McFarland!)
  
  
•  It DOES NOT REPEAL North Carolina’s existing concealed handgun permit (needed to bypass NICS and for reciprocity with other states).

Finally, the news article calls upon viewers to respond to an “informal” survey that at the present time is being manipulated by habitual television watching gun banning leftists!
