THE SCHOOL SHOOTER BLANKET OF PROTECTION

Another deadly attack in a “gun-free” zone. But thanks to politicians in Raleigh, only the innocent were free of guns…

This week at UNC Charlotte, we have once again seen a horrific attack where the assailant was certain his victims would be completely defenseless. This is even more heartbreaking when one considers that it doesn’t have to be like this.

They’ve Set it up This Way
The ultra-violent meet no resistance because legislators in Raleigh have set it up that way, and so far, they have refused to change it. The good news is, this very day Republicans in the North Carolina General Assembly (who are behind a protective wall of armed Capital Police), have bills before them that would free volunteer faculty members at schools and campuses to carry concealed handguns. That means, when an armed predator skulks into a classroom, he could actually meet effective, practical, and immediate resistance from an adult who is on the scene, an adult who, by nature, cares about the lives of the students around him.

Lifting the Blanket
Currently in the NC Senate are S192 and H76 (having passed the House). In the House are H216 and H912 (“public school” amendment necessary). Three of these four bills are already written to, in some way, address the state-sponsored blanket of protection that is now wrapped around every school shooter. AndH76, which is now immune from the crossover deadline, could easily be amended in the Senate to allow ‘Faculty Carry.’

Let’s face it, “gun-free” zones are nothing but ironically-named sectors of protection for the criminally insane and otherwise ultra-violent within our society. There is no stopping a motivated attacker from making plans and finding ways to follow through. This is an unfortunate fact of life in an imperfect world. However, the civilized (the real 99%) can effectively discourage and thwart these killers by providing resistance when and where it’s needed. This sort of resistance is the kind that cannot only stop attacks short, but surely deter some attacks from occurring in the first place.

School Shooters:

Wrapped in a
State-Sponsored
Blanket of Protection

Knowing all of that, we must insist that Legislators in Raleigh put an end to the school-shooter protective blanket known as “gun-free zones.”

With the crossover deadline looming,
these bills must move within the next week

Below, see how you can easily contact Republican leadership in both the NC House and Senate, and insist that they move the bills that would protect students in schools and on campuses all over the state.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

    • EMAIL REPUBLICAN LEADERS IN RALEIGH: Insist that they move at least one of the ‘faculty carry’ bills toward passage before the looming crossover deadline, thereby lifting the “school-shooter protective blanket” once and for all. Below, you’ll find a copy/paste email list for Republican leadership. Also below, under ‘Deliver This Message,’ you’ll find a copy/paste message to send.

Suggested Subject: "Stop Protecting School Shooters"

Dear Republican Leader:

I am writing today because of the recent and horrific shooting that occurred at UNC Charlotte. It’s appalling to me that school shooters commit their horrid acts under a state-sponsored blanket of protection. Of course, I’m referring to so-called “gun-free” zones. With the evidence no longer disputable, you probably agree that gun-free zones are nothing but ironically-named sectors of protection for the criminally insane and the otherwise ultra-violent within our society. This is a problem, but fortunately, the solution is something you have access to—right now.

Pass a 'Faculty Concealed Carry' Bill:
Currently, both the House and the Senate have bills in committee that would decriminalize the carrying of concealed handguns by volunteer faculty members at schools and on campuses. S192, H216, H912 (best if amended to include public schools), and H76 (if amended to allow ‘faculty carry’) are all bills that would put an end to the state-sponsored blanket of protection that is now wrapped around every school shooter. That’s a pretty big deal, and you are in a position to help shepherd one of these excellent bills through the legislative process.

It’s time for you to eliminate the state-sponsored protection of mass murderers. It’s time for Republicans like you to take the action necessary to decriminalize the protection of school children, to make it clear to would-be school shooters that, should they attempt a horrific act, they will likely be met with effective and immediate resistance. This must be done, it must be done before the looming crossover deadline, and because you’re a member of leadership, I’m counting on you to do it.

I’ll be monitoring your actions on this matter through alerts from Grass Roots North Carolina.

Respectfully,
