TURN UP THE HEAT ON
GENERAL ASSEMBLY LEADERS!

NCGA Leaders Drag Their Feet on Gun Bills
The clock is ticking and time is wasting on getting pro 2A bills passed.  In the NC House and the NC Senate, we need committee hearings and floor votes for the important, marquee gun bills. Particularly because there is an approaching crossover deadline in the House, and Senate leaders also seem to be dragging their feet in an effort to sit back and let the House do all the heavy lifting.

Turn up the Heat
A couple of weeks ago, we let leadership know (and how?) that we expected them to use the veto-proof majority gun owners gave them to do the will of the voters on these bills, but it seems they have not felt quite enough heat.

Here’s what we have on the table in the NC House and Senate:

NC House:

  • NC Constitutional Carry Act (H746)
  • Omnibus Gun Changes (H588)
  • Concealed Handgun Standardization Act (H438)

NC Senate:

  • Online Paperless Pistol Permit Modernization (S503)
  • Educational Property Definition/Firearms (S504)
  • Allow Concealed Carry on UNC & CC Campuses (S204)

Gun rights supporters sent these Representatives and Senators to Raleigh in the belief that they would live up to their campaign rhetoric. But any failure to move these pro-gun bills, such as constitutional carry, the omnibus bill, and others, will be recognized as a failure to follow through on that rhetoric. This would seriously call into question the majority party’s dedication to gun rights.

Help Leadership See the Light
Below, see how you can easily help General Assembly leadership see the light. Let them know that we’re all watching the clock and no excuses will be accepted. Get them rolling on these bills!

Speaker Moore: (919) 733-3451
Senator Berger: (919) 733-5708
Senator Rabon: (919) 733-5963

Hello, I’m calling [the Speaker / the Senator] today to express my great disappointment that he, as one of our leaders in the General Assembly, has not taken steps to move on pro-gun legislation in a quicker manner.

The clock is ticking on this year’s legislative session, and any failure to pass the several pro-gun bills will be recognized as a failure to follow through on pro-gun campaign rhetoric, and will not be taken lightly by voters like me. No excuses for failure will be acceptable.

Please tell the [representative / senator] that I am insisting that the marquee, pro-Second Amendment bills be moved toward passage immediately. The voters are watching closely. Thank you.

“Gun Bills Must Make the Crossover”

 Dear Speaker Moore:

The clock is ticking on this year’s legislative session, and I am very disappointed to learn that several pro-Second Amendment bills are still languishing, and in danger of missing the crossover deadline. North Carolina gun voters, like me, expect you to pull through for us on these critical bills, and NOW.

The bills I’m referring to are as follows:
  • NC Constitutional Carry Act (H746)
  • Omnibus Gun Changes (H588)
  • Concealed Handgun Standardization Act (H438)

With a veto-proof majority, there are absolutely no excuses for failing to advance gun rights in our state, and I insist that you, as your party’s leader, make sure they are advanced. All eyes are on you, Speaker Moore. We need you to do whatever it takes to make sure these bills make the crossover deadline, and keep moving toward final passage.  Failure to do so will seriously call into question your party’s dedication to gun rights.

I will continue to monitor your actions on this matter through alerts from Grass Roots North Carolina.

Respectfully,

“Gun Bills: Stop Waiting for the House to do the Heavy Lifting

 Dear Senator:

The clock is ticking on this year’s legislative session, and I am very disappointed to learn that several pro-Second Amendment bills are still languishing, and in danger of being left behind during this session. These bill cannot wait, and it appears as though the Senate is waiting for the NC House to do the heavy lifting. This will not do. North Carolina gun voters, like me, expect you to pull through for us on these critical bills, NOW. And, as a leader, not a follower.

The bills I’m referring to are as follows:

  • Online Paperless Pistol Permit Modernization (S503)

  • Allow Concealed Carry on UNC & CC Campuses (S204)

GRNC VICTORY IN SUMMERFIELD

Thanks to all of the GRNC supporters who emailed and phoned the Summerfield, NC Town Councilors, we can proclaim victory! Also, a special thanks to the GRNC volunteers and supporters who attended the meeting on Tuesday. Several gun rights voters spoke against the anti-gun ordinances Summerfield was contemplating, and no one was there to speak for these proposed ordinances.

To read specifics about the Summerfield situation, click here.

GRNC is happy to announce that, pending an upcoming formality to make it official, the Summerfield Town Council has decided to remove the illegal “no guns” signs from their town’s parks, after contemplating leaving them in place. Also, and just as importantly, the council has decided not to post against guns on town buildings, and other property after all (barring a couple minor exceptions).

Nice work everyone! Thanks to you, gun rights in North Carolina keep marching forward!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

As you know, GRNC is an all volunteer force. As such, we are looking for volunteers in a couple of areas:

  • WEB DEVELOPMENT
Experience in web development to include HTML, CSS & Java Scripting. If interested, contact GRNC President using the following contact form: http://www.grnc.org/contact
  • ALERT WRITING
Solid writing skills, ability to translate legal, political, technical and firearms jargon into layman's terms and make the public care about the issue. Ability to manipulate HTML style emails on the code level is a nice to have. If interested, please contact GRNC using this e-mail address: alert@grnc.org

If you have these skills, you can help the Second Amendment fight by enhancing and expanding GRNC’s presence, ensuring our message is received broadly in these modern times.

Don’t let your talents go to waste, as you could be the difference between gun-rights advancements and gun-rights losses.

Be the person who says, “I did something!” Instead of the person who says, “I should have done something.”
