Refuses to Abandon Racist Gun Control...

Unfortunately for NC gun owners, a few anti-gun sheriffs have been occupying key decision-making positions within the NC Sheriffs' Association (NCSA) for the last several years.

Clinging to an outdated permit system that allows arbitrary and subjective criteria to be applied to who is allowed to obtain constitutionally-protected handguns, NCSA leadership has consistently opposed GRNC's efforts to move beyond this antiquated paper-based permit system that was founded on repressive polices that have no place in modern America.

Currently NCGA is successfully blocking progress of the omnibus gun rights bill HB 562, "Second Amendment Affirmation Act" that will solve many problems for NC gun owners. This essential pro-freedom progress is being stopped due to archaic policies of a few power hungry sheriffs in NCSA.

The vast majority of states have standardized on the modern, computer-based NICS system that does a better job of applying objective criteria consistently.

It is past time for NCSA to place their out-dated, dysfunctional and potentially repressive permit system in the dustbin of history where it has belonged for decades, and to join the rest of the modern United States.

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE

Suggested Subject: "Move beyond archaic permit system. Support HB 562"

Dear Sheriff:

As you know, the out-dated, paper-based pistol permit system currently in place in North Carolina has been a contentious issue for decades.

Established as part of a repressive system of the past, it is an inefficient and unreliable system that must be updated.

For reasons that are difficult to comprehend, the NC Sheriffs' Association (NCSA) is opposed to joining the vast majority of other states that employ the more reliable NICS background check system.

NCSA's opposition is so vehement that they are once again threatening other pro-Second Amendment legislation (HB 562, "Second Amendment Affirmation Act") that is essential to restoring rights inappropriately infringed upon in the past.

Where do you stand on the pistol permit issue? I urge you to support updating our system, and to contact NCSA and insist they stop opposing progress.

I will be following progress on this issue through Grass Roots North Carolina alerts, and I support GRNC's plan to primary Sheriffs who continue to support this permit system that belongs in the dustbin of history.

Sincerely,

Additional Skills Needed for the
GRNC Alert Team:

A person is needed to expand the GRNC alert team.  Good writing skills is a must along with the ability to coordinate with personnel at various levels.  Knowledge of HTML and ability to manipulate HTML style emails on the code level.  Strong understanding of desktop publishing concepts and Microsoft Office tools.  Person should be able to translate legal, political, technical and firearms jargon into layman's terms and make the public care about the issue.  Familiarity of a mass emailing system like Constant Contact is a nice to have.
