Reps. Daughtry, Davis and Jackson Return to the 11th Century…

In a move reminiscent of 11th Century superstition, normally pro-gun Reps. N. Leo Daughtry (R-Johnston) and Ted Davis, Jr. (R-New Hanover) have, perhaps unwittingly, signed on with rabidly anti-gun Rep. Darren Jackson (D-Wake) with a bill entitled: "Destroy Firearm/Crime of Assault or Murder" (H241), which would push to destroy guns "used to assault a law enforcement officer."

Blaming guns has always been a ploy of the anti-gun establishment, and this bill is no exception. The proposed bill guts current legislation that limits the destruction of firearms by law enforcement to only those lacking legible serial numbers or are unsafe due to wear, damage, age, or modifications.

Apparently Reps Daughtry, Davis and Jackson believe in "deodands": The ancient superstition that an object believed to have "caused" a person's death should be destroyed because it is a "guilty object."

It is irresponsible to destroy objects that do no harm on their own and would serve the survivors and others injured by criminals better if they were sold and proceeds used for further law enforcement or possibly given to the victims' families.

Tell Them Not to Punish Guns for Crimes

Let Representatives Daughtry, Davis, and Jackson know that you are opposed to codifying superstition into law and would rather that firearms used in crime be sold and the funds used for productive purposes. Also let Representatives Daughtry and Davis know that you do not appreciate them voting for a bill in one session, only to turn around and gut it in the next.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

  • Call AND email Reps Daughtry, Davis and Jackson: Tell them you are watching their attempt to codify superstition into law.

Suggested Subject: RE: "Destroy Firearm/Crime of Assault or Murder" (H241)

Dear Reps Daughtry, Davis and Jackson:

I oppose your bill "Destroy Firearm/Crime of Assault or Murder" (H241).

This bill codifies superstition into law and I would rather that firearms used in crime be sold and the funds used for productive purposes. In addition, I don't appreciate you voting for a bill in one session, only to turn around and gut it in the next.

Please advise me of your position on this bill. I will be monitoring your actions via Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.

Respectfully,
