Anthony Foxx, his City Council and Manager maneuver to disarm the law-abiding…

Charlotte has scheduled a series of “Extraordinary Events” during which the freedom of law-abiding North Carolinians is severely compromised.

Backpacks, many ordinary tools and even ROCKS are among items banned within large areas of Uptown Charlotte during five “Events” scheduled so far, including the Democrat National Convention.

Although firearms are not mentioned specifically, and can’t be banned due to GRNC’s successful statewide preemption, Sec. 15-313-c-14 of the ordinance does prohibit, “A device used to shoot, hurl or project a missile of any description…” Is this an illegal gun ban?

While Charlotte tries to disarm North Carolinians, Florida upholds Second Amendment rights.

Meanwhile in Florida, Governor Rick Scott shut-down Tampa’s misguided efforts to ban guns during the Republican National Convention:

"It is unclear how disarming law abiding citizens would better protect them from the dangers and threats posed by those who would flout the law".

We couldn’t have said it any better, Governor.

City of Charlotte Leader,

I am very disappointed by your insulting lack of trust in law-abiding North Carolinians. Your cynical “Extraordinary Event” ordinance treats all citizens within large areas of Charlotte as if they were the lowest form of violent criminal. This is no way for elected officials to treat their electorate.

I am particularly concerned about Sec. 15-313-c-14 of the ordinance that prohibits, “A device used to shoot, hurl or project a missile of any description…” This appears to be a gun ban that violates both the Constitutionally protected right to bear arms, as well as state preemption of municipal gun bans.

I advise you to follow the wise example of Florida Governor Rick Scott and rescind this disrespectful, unconstitutional and illegal ordinance immediately.

A Gun-Owning North Carolinian
