Scotland County Parks Carry "Cussin' and Discussin'" Continues...

Plan & Attend April 2nd Commissioners meeting...

The Scotland County Board of Commissioners is expected to review a draft ordinance prohibiting concealed carry in county park recreation areas at its April 2 meeting.  Your help is needed again to remind the commissioners you do not support any ordinance restricting concealed carry in parks.  Despite the misguided allowance for park-related concealed carry restrictions included in HB 650, the commissioners do not have to use the allowances and need to be reminded and encouraged not to do so.   Please add the next meeting, Monday, April 2, 2012, 7pm, at the Scotland County A.B. Gibson Center Board Room, 322 S. Main Street, Laurinburg, to your calendar and plan to attend the meeting to represent your interests.

If the April 2 meeting does not resolve the matter...

If no resolution regarding parks carry occurs at the April 2 meeting, vigilance at the May and June meetings may be required.  Please add these meetings to your calendar also:

  • Monday, May 7, 2012, 7:00pm
  • Monday, June 4, 2012, 7:00pm
IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED
Let county commissioners hear from YOU!

  •  Tell the Board of Commissioners you are watching their actions.

  • Add the April 2, May 7, and June 4 commission meetings to your schedule.  Meetings begin at 7:00 pm and are held at the Scotland County A.B. Gibson Center Board Room, 322 S. Main Street, Laurinburg. Plan to pack the room for each meeting.

Dear County Commissioner:

It has come to my attention the board of commissioners may be reviewing, at the April 2 meeting, a draft ordinance restricting concealed carry in county parks by law-abiding concealed carry permit holders.  Approving such an ordinance would be a grave error.

Concealed carry permit holders have proven themselves to be one of the most, if not THE most, law-abiding groups in North Carolina and in every state with concealed carry permits.  There is no evidence to support speculation that concealed carry permit holders will be any less law-abiding while enjoying Scotland County parks than they are everywhere they legally carry today.  Concealed carry permits have been available in North Carolina since the mid-1990s, and since that time permit holders have proven themselves to be sane, sober, and law-abiding.  Adding county parks to the list of allowed locations for concealed carry will make parks safer, not more dangerous as the crying wolf, Henny Penny's would have you believe.

Please vote against or otherwise dispose of any ordinance restricting concealed carry in Scotland County parks.

Please advise me of your position on this matter.  I will be monitoring your actions via Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.

Respectfully,

A Concerned and Gun-Owning Voter
