ACT NOW FOR NC CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY!

Stalwart gun rights supporter Rep. Larry Pittman (R-Cabarrus) is once again bucking inertia-driven party leadership who refuse to give constitutional carry legislation a committee hearing, and he needs your immediate support.

The hardcore and rarely used tactic is called a “discharge petition” and forces a bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote in cases where party leadership refuses to move the bill. The bill is HB 254, which would amend the North Carolina Constitution by removing language prejudicial against carrying concealed firearms and replace it with the following:

“Any citizen of the United States who (i) has not been indicted or convicted of a violent crime or possession or distribution of a controlled substance and (ii) has not been adjudicated mentally incompetent has the right to carry any legal weapon for self-defense, either openly or concealed, with or without a permit, except on public or private property that is legally posted against it. A system of concealed carry permits shall be maintained for purposes of reciprocity with other States and ease of purchasing weapons, but no law-abiding citizen shall be required to obtain such a permit to carry a concealed weapon."

The good news is that because it is a constitutional amendment, anti-gun Gov. Roy Cooper doesn’t get a chance to veto it!

The bad news is that Larry needs 61 signatures on the petition to dislodge it from committee, meaning we need YOU to tell legislators to sign it!

Larry plans to do this TOMORROW, so you must contact legislators IMMEDIATELY!

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

Suggested Subject:"Sign House Bill 254, Constitutional Carry

NC House Republicans:

With recent passage of permitless “constitutional carry” of firearms in Texas, there are now 21 states in which constitutional carry is the law. Yet inertia-driven Republicans who have now controlled the NC General Assembly since 2011 have consistently refused to pass this effective and overwhelmingly popular gun rights legislation. But Rep. Larry Pittman is trying to fix that by aggressively offering a discharge petition for House Bill 254, “Constitutional Amendment/Concealed Carry.”

Republicans claim they support gun rights. They have talked the talk, but now it’s time to walk the walk. I strongly encourage you to sign Rep. Pittman’s discharge petition immediately and demonstrate that Republican support for gun rights is more than a paper tiger.

Respectfully,
