BLOOMBERG’S MAIN MOMMY
DESCENDS ON NORTH CAROLINA

‘Moms against Guns’ lead agitator, Shannon Watts, is coming to town to dictate the joys of gun control to North Carolina’s citizens, and our own WBTV is giving her the platform to do it…

It’s true, New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg is sending his favorite minion, Shannon Watts, to North Carolina to enlighten us all on why you, the law-abiding gun owner, is the problem, and to get the ball rolling on New York-style gun control in our state. So that the community is actually represented, GRNC needs you to attend the so-called “Community Conversation” that WBTV is hosting to help the gun control movement (see below, under ‘Immediate Action Required’).

WBTV’s Anti-Gun Echo Chamber
Watts will be one of several anti-gun panel members participating in a grossly out-of-balance discussion on guns, broadcast by Charlotte’s WBTV television station. Although it’s supposed to be a “community” conversation, it seems that the pro-Second Amendment members of the community have been short-changed, while an out-of-state anti-gun activist (not a member of the community) will be given a voice, surrounded by media and panelists who will do nothing but nod for each other’s misleading statements, and validate each other’s misguided, harmful opinions regarding gun ownership.

Although Grass Roots North Carolina was initially contacted by WBTV to participate in this "Community Conversation," it soon became clear that the pro-gun rights portion of the conversation would be represented by a singular voice. However, those with an anti-gun rights position, those likely to spread false statistics, and who are comfortable demonizing gun owners like you, would be represented by… everyone else on the panel! If this sounds like a setup to you, then you’re familiar with the tactics of today’s media. Click here for more details on this transparent attempt by WBTV to put its thumb on the scale of public perception.

Attend the ‘Community Conversation’
Since pro-gun advocates have been, in effect, barred (at least in balance) from lending a voice to this event, GRNC is requesting that its supporters attend the event as audience members. You can easily get free tickets* to attend the event at the Eventbrite site mentioned below, or better yet, CLICK HERE to get a ticket right now.

* While tickets last (Total event occupancy is unknown, and GRNC has no control over ticket availability. If you can attend, please get your ticket immediately!)

Don’t Leave it to “the Other Guy”
Below, find details on an important step you can take to counter the anti-gun propaganda that WBTV and others are attempting to spread. Join other GRNC, gun-rights supporters at this event, at which you may have an opportunity to ask questions or correct to misstatements. Gun owners like you must stand up now. “Tomorrow” will be too late.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

  • JOIN US AT WBTV’S ‘COMMUNITY CONVERSATION’ ON GUNS: We need you there. Below, find details on attending this forum. Get tickets here*, and ahead of time, please email GRNC’s DirectorOfDevelopment@grnc.org so we know that you’ll be there.

  • CALL AND EMAIL WBTV: Let them know that Shannon Watts and the anti-gun echo chamber are in no way representative of our community. They need to be told that this is both yellow journalism and overt sponsorship of the corporate anti-freedom agenda. Find contact information and message text below.

  • CALL AND EMAIL TOYOTA OF NORTH CHARLOTTE: Tell them to cut their advertising ties with WBTV—and that if they don't, that you'll spread the word that Toyota of North Charlotte is tacitly supporting the corporate anti-gun lobby, and that they are not deserving of our business. Find contact information and message text below.

  • PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO GRNC: Help us fight gun control while we promote Second Amendment principles. Please CLICK HERE to contribute. Bear in mind that GRNC is an all-volunteer organization, so you can be sure your donations are put to the best possible use. Any amount helps, and any amount is appreciated.

Suggested Subject: "WBTV's Blatant Yellow Journalism"

Dear WBTV:

Through Grass Roots North Carolina's alerts, I have been made aware of WBTV's plan to give Shannon Watts and a "gun control echo chamber" a platform from which to spew their anti-freedom nonsense. Nothing could be further from a true "conversation," and I'm really disappointed that your station would pander thus to the anti-gun corporate lobby.

If WBTV doesn't immediately change the format to include an equal number of pro-second-amendment speakers, then I will have no choice but to boycott both WBTV and its advertisers, and I will go out of my way to let your advertisers know about this.

Respectfully,

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE
TO TOYOTA OF NORTH CHARLOTTE

Suggested Subject: "Stop Advertising With WBTV!"

Dear Toyota of North Charlotte:

As you may know, the WBTV television station has decided to pander to the corporate anti-gun lobby by hosting a "community conversation about gun violence" that is anything but. Not only have they invited former Monsanto PR executive Shannon Watts and an echo chamber of anti-gun politicians to spread Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun rhetoric in North Carolina. No pro-second-amendment advocates will be included in this "community conversation."

Toyota of North Charlotte is an advertiser on WBTV, and I'm writing to let you know that as long as your dealership continues to advertise on WBTV, I will be taking my automotive business elsewhere. Furthermore, I will let my friends and family know that Toyota of North Charlotte supports this sort of yellow journalism, and that they should also take their business elsewhere.

Your dealership has a fine reputation in Charlotte and the surrounding area, and I would like to see you continue to enjoy the patronage of my friends and family. I will look forward to hearing that you have discontinued advertising with WBTV, and that you stand strong with your local community in rejecting these out-of-state lobbies and the politicians that they pander to.

Respectfully,
