GRNC Update 02-19-08:
Thanks to your input, the ordinance proposed by
Lincoln County Commissioner MARIE MOORE (R -At Large
- Term Expires Dec. 2008) has been soundly rejected by
the Board of Commissioners. Give yourselves a hand.
Story and video:
http://www.lincolntribune.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=8205
The Lincoln Tribune noted that opposition forces
rallied by GRNC "seem to have been successful." Thanks
go out to Lincoln County Sheriff Tim Daugherty who
spoke out in opposition to the measure. Sheriff
Daugherty said matter-of-factly: "I don't think this
ordinance is enforceable from a law enforcement stand
point. The Sheriff's Office does not stand in support
of this." He also noted that most of Moore's concerns
are already addressed in current law.
The Tribune stated that: "Commissioner Moore seemed to
admit that she had done little research into the need
for such a new ordinance." Commissioner ALEX PATTON
then moved to reject the ordinance, effectively
killing it. The board then voted 4-1 to reject this
poorly researched and ill considered ordinance.
Commissioner MARIE MOORE issued the lone dissenting
vote against rejecting this violation of the rights of
Lincoln County's gun owners.
ACTION DESIRED
* Contact the Lincoln County Commissioners (listed
below) who voted to reject this ordinance ? thank them
for doing the right thing:
Dear Commissioner:
Thank you for doing the right thing for the citizens
of Lincoln County by voting to reject the ordinance
proposed by Commissioner Moore limiting the rights of
gun owners in the county. It is disturbing that she
insisted on standing by this measure even after having
admitted that proper research had not been done and
being told by Sheriff Daugherty that her concerns are
already addressed in current law.
The faithfulness to our rights by those who voted to
reject the ordinance will be remembered at the polls.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Voter
