Gun Control
Orgs,
Durham
Stonewall on
Child Porn
NCGV Board Member & Project Safe
Neighborhoods Coordinator
Investigated For Downloading:
admitted child pornography downloader
Would you consider it
newsworthy if an employee of the Durham Police Department, former
board member for
North Carolinians “Against Gun
Violence” and federal coordinator for “Project Safe Neighborhoods,”
which purports to protect children from guns, admitted during a
lie-detector test that he had illegally downloaded child
pornography? (1)
Not if you are the media, the city of
Durham, or the two gun
control organizations for which he worked, apparently: Rather than
denouncing him, they managed to keep it secret for nearly five
months, until a small tabloid, “The Independent Weekly” unearthed
the truth.
According
to the Independent: “As the
Durham coordinator of a
federal anti-gun violence program, Robert
Faggart canvassed neighborhoods after shootings, reaching out
to clergy and other citizens to help solve crimes.
But when he was off the clock, Faggart
admitted to interviewers during the process of applying to be a
police officer, he downloaded child pornography, according to a
sealed search warrant obtained by the Independent.”
Although the search
of Faggart’s home failed to find child
pornography and charges have not yet been filed, “his
results, referenced in the search warrant, suggested he downloaded
more porn than he acknowledged”, said the Independent.

‘Protect’ kids from guns…
…but not sexual exploitation?
Gun control advocates consistently propose
restrictions to gun ownership in the name of “protecting the
children.” So why did Project Safe Neighborhoods
still list Faggart as
its Durham-area coordinator months after he left the Durham
police department while under a criminal investigation, indeed
even as the Independent broke the story?
Why has
North Carolinians “Against Gun
Violence” not denounced Faggart – a
man who was, until recently, a member of its board of directors?
(See photo of NCGV Executive Director posing for photograph with
confessed child pornography downloader Robert
Faggart, below.)
Why has the city of Durham, which has sought to
revitalize its moribund gun registration law and to sue gun
manufacturers out of business -- all in the name of protecting
“the children” -- not apologized for having one of its employees
admit to downloading sexually explicit images of the same
children it purports to “protect?”
Ironically, the Independent – an unashamedly liberal
tabloid -- has been taking heat from liberal
bloggers whose hypocrisy leads them
to denounce the newspaper for reporting the story rather than
the organizations which facilitated Faggart.
Evidently, lefties only want to protect kids from things they
don’t like. |

Action Required
Ø
Write a
letter to the
Durham “Herald-Sun” and
Raleigh “News & Observer,” demanding
that North Carolinian’s “Against Gun Violence,” Project Safe
Neighborhoods and the city of
Durham place themselves
on record that they want to actually protect children rather than
simply banning guns in the name of protecting children. To maximize
chances of publication, keep letters less than 150 words.

Talking
Points
Ø
If gun
control organizations such as
North Carolinians “Against Gun
Violence” and Project Safe Neighborhoods consistently claim they
want to protect children, why have they not aggressively denounced
one of their own board members who has
admitted to exploitative behavior concerning the same children they
purport to protect? The organizations and city for
entrusting children's safety to Faggart
Ø
Why would
media outlets bury the story? Do they not consider it newsworthy
that a city employee and federal coordinator responsible for the
safety of children admitted to exploitative behavior regarding
children?
Ø
Why do
bloggers on the liberal Independent’s
web site denounce the paper for reporting the story instead of
denouncing the organizations and city for giving
Faggart access to children after such
behavior?
