Grass Roots North Carolina is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to preserving the freedoms guaranteed us by the Bill of Rights. Our main focus is the right to keep and bear arms. GRNC was central to drafting and passing North Carolina’s concealed handgun law and since that time has continued to push for improvements to gun laws. Most recently, GRNC successfully passed the “Castle Doctrine” as part of HB 650, along with more than 20 pro-gun amendments to NC law. HB 650 became law on December 1, 2011.

Our current legislative effort is to join states like Tennessee, Virginia and Ohio by eliminating the restriction that prevents conceal carry in restaurants that serving alcohol. GRNC believes law abiding gun owners should not be required to forfeit their right to keep and bear arms simply because they enter an establishment that serves alcohol. NC law already prohibits alcohol consumption while carrying concealed.

In election years, GRNC’s highly successful ‘Remember in November’ voter education project distributes more than 100,000 voter guides covering candidates for all state and federal elections in the state. Our candidate evaluation system is so sophisticated that it is even used by the non-partisan ‘Project Vote Smart.’ As an all-volunteer group, GRNC delivers “max bang for the legislative buck.” Unlike other gun rights organizations, we don’t have highly paid staffers or access-based lobbyists.
