"Dangerous Weapons" Ban

One must wonder why local jurisdictions are suddenly gearing up to restrict freedoms at this time of the year.  Do they not know they are moving in the WRONG direction?

Earlier this week, a new Democrat Majority in Lee County began the process to reinstate CHP restrictions on lawful citizens doing business in Lee County buildings, overturning the previous Commission’s decision of October.

Now the Village of Wesley Chapel wants to take similar action, and create an ordinance FOR THE FIRST TIME in Village history that bans ALL DANGEROUS WEAPONS.  Why, one might ask?  Is it because of threats or violence on Village property?  No record of such criminal activities can be found.  No, more likely, it’s just because they can!

Grass Roots North Carolina is aware of this nefarious activity and has already put the Village Council on notice that we will contest their effort.  We’ve pointed out their original draft ordinance violates State Law, and if enacted, will lead to a lawsuit WE WILL WIN.  We’ve also put them on notice that we will attend their meetings to advocate against disarming lawful citizens….after all, there are no truly dangerous weapons….but only DANGEROUS PEOPLE.

A “Magic Sign” as they propose will do nothing to change the situation, except disarm those who actually follow the law, and therefore accept the risk of being victims.   As has been documented over and over again, criminals and law-breakers consistently and repeatedly BREAK THE LAW!  Without metal detectors and full body strip searches, Wesley Chapel Councilmen and women will only have the illusion of safety should they pass this ordinance.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

  • What can we do?  We can raise our voice, and make use of our time to email, call, and most importantly, ATTEND the Village Council Meeting on Monday December 8th at 7:00 PM.  Sign up before the meeting to speak to the Council and demand they not take away your right to defend yourself and your loved ones on public property.  We know Mayor Pro Tem Mike Como is our friend in this regard, the others most likely not.

  • The Wesley Chapel Village Council will start their meeting to consider scheduling a Public Hearing on a proposed “Dangerous Weapons” Ordinance beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 2014 at Town Hall, 6490 Weddington Road, Wesley Chapel, NC
