SHOULD CALIFORNIA DECIDE WHO BECOMES PRESIDENT?

This is a follow up on an alert of a couple of days ago. Please reinforce your point with the attached message to the noted representatives.

SB 954, introduced by Sen. Clodfelter (D Mecklenburg County, GRNC 0 stars), could award North Carolina's electoral votes to the presidential candidate that gets the most votes nationwide. It has passed the Senate and is now in the House Committee on Election Law & Campaign Finance Reform.

Our founders knew that without safeguards a democracy has the potential to lead to tyranny, so they created a democratic republic. The Electoral College forces presidential candidates to address the concerns of each state. SB 954 would allow a presidential candidate to pander exclusively to the concerns of the largest states and ignore other states, like North Carolina. Do you want presidential candidates to ignore you while schmoozing the voters of San Francisco?

If this type of legislation passes throughout the country, presidential candidates will campaign only in highly populated areas of the country. Since many voters in these areas support gun control, how do you think this may impact presidential politics in the area of our primary concern? SB 954 would prove disastrous to the rights of gun owners in this state.

Deliver this message:

Dear Representative:

Please oppose SB 954, "Popular Election." This bill is an end run around the U. S. Constitution and would reduce a presidential candidate's need to show concern for North Carolina issues.

SB 954, introduced by Sen. Clodfelter (D Mecklenburg County, with a very poor record on protecting our 2nd Amendment rights, according to GRNC ? Grass Roots North Carolina), could award North Carolina's electoral votes to the presidential candidate that gets the most votes nationwide.

I do not want presidential candidates ignoring NC citizen interests while schmoozing the voters of anti-gun places like New York, San Francisco, etc.!

If this type of legislation passes throughout the country, presidential candidates will campaign only in highly populated areas. Since many voters in these areas support gun control, this would prove disastrous to the rights of gun owners in this state.

Please strongly oppose SB 954 and WIN in the effort.

Sincerely,

A Concerned North Carolina Voter
