Pols Want YOU Muzzled!

The NC House Select Committee on Ethics and
Governmental Reform are fed up with hearing from you
the taxpayers of North Carolina and they plan on
taking your voice away. In a move almost certainly
aimed at silencing Grass Roots North Carolina, the
committee plans to introduce legislation that would do
so under the guise of lobbying reform.
ARE YOU A JACK ABRAMOFF?
The proposed legislation presumes that YOU, the NC
gun-owner, are a sleazy lobbyist that doesn't deserve
to have a voice in Raleigh.
In a NC House Ethics Committee meeting, Rep. BEVERLY
EARLE (D-Mecklenburg, GRNC 0-star) has insisted that
the definition of lobbyist be expanded to include not
only paid lobbyists, but also UNPAID volunteers for
NON-PROFIT organizations. Next, committee chair JOE
HACKNEY (D-Orange, GRNC 0-star) agreed to "address her
concerns."
At both federal and state levels, politicos like Earle
have tried to muzzle organizations like GRNC with
campaign speech suppression laws under the guise of
"campaign finance reform." Now that they have failed
in these attempts (so far), they now plan to equate
you and the volunteer grass roots organizations that
speak on your behalf with felons like convicted
lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who stands at the center of a
scandal that has spotlighted corrupt politicians.
THIS NEFARIOUS PLAN WOULD REQUIRE THAT YOU OR ANY
GROUP SPEAKING FOR YOU WOULD FIRST HAVE TO REGISTER AS
"LOBBYISTS!" IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

Dear Representative:
Representatives Beverly Earle and Joe Hackney are
scheming to brand non-profit organizations like Grass
Roots North Carolina as "lobbyists" in the proposed
"Revise Legislative Ethics Act." It is unbelievable
the lengths that some in the General Assembly will go
to prevent the people of North Carolina from having
their say.
Last year volunteers from Grass Roots North Carolina
narrowly defeated two plots to circumvent the will of
voters. Now Earle and others have apparently decided
to further suppress voter input into the legislative
process.
Unpaid volunteers are not "lobbyists." They are
CITIZENS exercising their First Amendment rights to
protect their interests. Rest assured that I will
monitor your position on this issue via Grass Roots
North Carolina alerts and will hold politicians
accountable for any effort to muzzle voters.
